TODAY’S microfinance banks were created to improve on the performance of the erstwhile community banks and the People’s Bank before them among other initiatives taken by government to assist the poor (who cannot obtain funds from conventional financial institutions) in cash and kind to embark on income-generating activities and become self-reliant.
